| Village Scene Productions (V.S.P.) is now preparing for its third year of professional theatre |
| production.From very small beginnings in training professional acting techniques with the G.L.A.D.E. program |
| threeyears ago, now called the ACTOUT program, and producing four productions in two seasons V.S.P. is |
| expanding its’ horizons and vision. We are currently conducting casting for the role of |
| an Associate Artistic Director. |
| V.S.P. a nonprofit corporation (2002) has ties that figure prominently in both the Montreal theatre and Gay |
| and Lesbian communities. Briefly its’ formal mandate is to develop original work and to promote new |
| talent. To use drama to effect change on our diverse society and to produce in both the French and |
| English languages. |
| The Role: |
| Collaborating with the Artistic Director and reporting through the Board of Directors to the President, the |
| Associate Artistic Director will be responsible for the overall co-management of all operations, ensuring |
| that agreed artistic and financial goals are met along with the successful growth of the business. |
| The Associate Artistic Director will be responsible for: |
| … The co-management of the artistic program for the year, including developing and implementing the |
| creative vision and mandate of the company and selecting the program for each year. |
| … To share in the supervision of the different artistic aspects of production (set design, costumes, |
| lightning, sound); From an artistic point of view, set and supervise the respect of each shows’ parameters. |
| … To
share in the development of a strategic
plan for the company to maximize business opportunities

| and facilitate utilization in addition to the artistic direction noted above. |
| … The co-management of the business, including the operations, attending board meetings, producing of |
| annual budgets and a business plan, and budgets for each show or event. Organize and manage the |
| Artistic department resources, human resources and material. |
| … The co-management and supervision of all personnel employed directly by or on contract to the |
| company. Liaison with Actors’ Equity as required. |
| … The co-management of any building sites utilized by V.S.P. ensuring compliance with laws, codes etc, |
| and that security and insurance coverage are adequate. |
| … The timely identification of and application for grants and other financial support that may be available. |
| … Leadership, in conjunction with board, of fund-raising events as required. |
| … Maintaining of contacts and networks in both the Montreal theatre community, particularly with French |
| language theatre groups. And the Queer community particularly with the Lesbian groups. |
| … Maximizing revenue generating opportunities for the company (apart from theatrical productions). |
| … Other related tasks, which may be agreed from time to time with the President. |
| Qualifications and Experience: |
| The ideal candidate to fill this role will share the vision of the V.S.P. mandate and have: |
| … Experience in the business of a successful arts operation in a in Canada (preferably Quebec theatre). |
| … A substantial knowledge of the Quebec French and English theatre scene and of material suitable for |
| artistic programs. Familiarity with, but not limited to, the Queer community in particular with Lesbian |
| organizations. Professional training in theatre arts, or a related field, combined with strong networking skills |
| in relationship building and maintenance. |
| … Have previously demonstrated innovation and creativity in the area of arts management (preferably |
| theatre). |
| … Strong management and organizational skills in the areas of marketing, public relations, production and |
| related theatre operations, the management of personnel, and administration in general. |
| … Experience in the area of fund-raising campaigns, including management and event organization. |
| … Knowledge of and preferably experience in applying for available government grants and other financial |
| support, including sponsorships. |
| … Experience working with a volunteer board of directors, and in working with and motivating volunteer |
| supporters. |
| … Familiar with financial statements, budgets, and business plans. |
| … Strong computer skills; (Macintosh environment preferred). |
| … Excellent communication skill, French and English written and oral. |
| … Fluent in the official language of French. |
