Bio: Davyn Ryall (Director)

Davyn Ryall a second generation Montrealer of anglo-saxon decent, is Artistic Director of Village Scene Productions (VSP), est 2000. V.S.P. has developed almost two dozen productions in Quebec in English & French and toured twice to the U.S. VSP produces the Harvest - L.G.B.T. International Theatre Festival of Montreal, est. 2004. This annual event is a celebration of the contribution made by LGBT culture to the performing arts in theatre, dance and music, featuring a cornucopia of local, national, and international diverse talent on stage.He first appeared on the stage in 1994 and then on the big screen in 1997, and in 1999 completed both the full season actors program at Dynamic Theater Factory as well as the Artistic Career Management program at College Rosemount. Davyn can be seen in numerous English films ( Day After Tomorrow , 2004), and as an active member of Union de Artists, in many French films ( Que Dieu bénisse l'Amérique , 2005), and television productions ( Minuit le soir , 2006). He has also made occasional stage appearances, most recently in Black Comedy . See link to CV for entire listing of accomplishments.With over 35 years of event planning and coordination experience, Davyn mostly enjoys directing for the stage and producing and developing new works ( Mae Day, 2006; Mauvais Match 2004), as well as collaborating with and promoting new local talent. He was attributed the honor of most noteworthy direction of a production for two consecutive years at the Harvest festival in 2004 for Mauvais Match and in 2005 for Seedlings and best stage design for the critically acclaimed play William & James in 2006.William & James , a play by Robert Tsonos, Davyn also directed and was dramaturge of the French version. The play was performed over 40 times in Montreal (in 2006, during   the Montreal OutGames, Divers/Cité and Harvest; in 2007 at the Fringe outdoor site) and recently performed off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York.For Davyn, directing the Canadian premiere of A Queer Carol by NYC's Joe Godfrey, as well as being dramaturge and directing the world premiere of the French translation, is considerably his biggest challenge to date. As well, he has collaborated, with Jacqueline Van De Geer (Holland), on the ACTOUT creative work (mime, mask, magic and movement) on the original narration of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, which is VSP's first production produced for a younger audience, and is presented in both languages. These productions are both presented during the 4th edition of Harvest, held for the first time at Mainline Theatre.Davyn's next project, already underway for 2008, is dramaturge of the translation and directing of the French version of another critical success, DAVID by Montreal's Bryn Symonds and Joseph Bembridge.But if asked what is his biggest reward it is being married to his best friend and partner of over 11 years, Ricky, and spending time with their pets Baron and Sheena.
