Co-Creators: Tim Evanicki and Esther Daack, Orlando, Florida.
Directed by Davyn Ryall. Musical Director Chris Barilaro. Chroeographer TBA.
Canadian cast production summer 2009.
This rib-tickling, ass-slapping, toe-tapping all male revue promises to be a rousing, carousing, musical montage featuring all of your favorite bathhouse icons. Join Billy as he visits his friendly neighbourhood bathhouse for the first time. He's looking for love but soon realizes that the other patrons are looking for something else, something a little more temporary! The Play is a camp musical comedy for mature audiences, with adult themes, and plenty of scantily clad men!
Well hello there 'Boyces'! It's your first day at your friendly neighbourhood bathhouse? Feeling scared, flustered & aloof?
The Friendly Neighbourhood Bathhouse, will be a fun and exciting Play, just keep these three few simple rules in mind:
A successful bathhouse musical is as easy as A! B! C!
A pproach: "Friendly Neighbourhood Bathhouse " It's obvious that this Play is set in a Bathhouse. It reads like a 1950's public service film. Even though the language and context can sometimes speak of and deal with R-Xrated issues, it's best to approach them with the idea that you can and should leave things to the imagination. Remember, there's a difference between uncontrollable laughter and uncomfortable laughter.
B elievability : Each of these characters represents an archetype. Billy is the naive 'new-comer'. It is not until after the final love duet between he and Maurice that he shows us some confidence. Teddy is the loveable 'Twinky' type. Maurice is the experienced, leader of the pack figure, exuding loads of sexual energy. David is the incredibly hot, almost untouchable one. Even in serious situations, these characters read as such throughout. Please see character breakdowns for more information.
C AMP: Living by this word... Choreography, Staging, Sets, Props, Advertising: Think bright, bubbly, colorful, and high level 'campyness'. Use of camp bright advertising will draw attention to this Play and this will put 'butts in our seats', and not lead them to think they're going to get anything different or less than a roll-on-the-floor, laughing out loud, evening of adult humor. Keeping that certain level of high-end camp will transcend all demographics.
See you at the Baths!

4 characters in 4 towels on a stage with 4 closed doors.
Maurice. Portray age range aprox: 23 - 33. (Pop-Baritone to a High A-flat). Should have a killer Maurice Chevalier impression, (Think 'Lumiere' in Disney's Beauty and the Beast) for the Bathhouse ABC's. Medium size proportional frame aprox: 5'9" - 6'2". An attractive well built Bathhouse member, he should exude a sexual magnetism unparalleled by the rest of the cast. Depending on casting for other characters, ideally he should appear the oldest...Billy's foil. Character on the surface is the Alpha male: Charming yet insincere, smarmy, manipulative, aggressive, self-serving, and witty. Internally: vulnerable, lonely, longing for his past, for his lost love. Everyone recognizes Maurice at the Baths and looks up to him, which is why he can't show his inner pain.
Billy. Portray age range: 18 - 28. (A tenor, with a clear High B-Flat). Aprox: 5'6" - 5'10". Slim to slight or a little bit chubby physical shape. Smooth chest. Character is naïve, innocent, introverted, vulnerable, and inexperienced. He is somewhat awkward, unsure yet curious, sincere and very idealistic.
Teddy. Portray age range aprox: 18 - 28. (Tenor to a B-flat (Falsetto C)). Physically he is the boyish 'Twinky' type. Lean naturally slim swimmer's build with little to no chest hair. Aprox: 5'7" - 5'11". Should resemble relatively close to Billy's age. Character is: sweet, good-natured, cute, and easily excitable. He was in Billy's 'position' not long ago. He has already gained the wisdom that Billy learns throughout the Play. Attracted to 'Bears' hairy men. Must have the ability to make the audience fall in love with his wide-eyed curiosity and sweet innocence. Think Barnaby in Hello, Dolly!
David. Portray age range aprox: 21 - 30. (Bari-tenor. Pop Baritone with high G's). Should be able to riff and have a strong pop falsetto. Physically he is 'Hot', physically muscular and ripped. Aprox: 5'8 - 6'. Named after the Michelangelo statue 'David' for his impeccable physique. Character traits: Though David serves as eye-candy for the entire Bathhouse population, we learn that he is in fact lonely, since others judge him and are actually intimidated by his looks. We also learn, that he is trapped and is now a slave to his own body image. His passion for working out stems from his insecurities of formerly being overweight. We get hints throughout the Play that he might have interest in Billy.
